Ironman 70.3 Galway

Congratulations to everyone who took part in Irelands first Ironman event. There are days when you earn your stripes and Sunday 4th September was one of them. With very windy conditions the organisers were forced to shorten the swim and in the end most people were very happy they did so. The water was very choppy and with a strong wind coming in off the sea it made for a difficult start to the race. The wind helped competitors on the out-leg of the bike course to Maam Cross in Connemara. The return leg was a different story with strong winds and rain to contend with.

Groomsport 1/2 Ironman distance Triathlon

The Groomsport Ireman Triathlon took place on Sunday 21st August. Four OTC members competed in the individual event and a relay team. Results again were outstanding for the club.

Sara Hanning was first female over the line. Matt Allum was second in the 25-29 age group and sixth overall. Conor McKenna finished 8th in the 30-34 age group and 22nd overall. Alfie Day finished 3rd in the 50-54 age group and 51st overall. The relay team finished in a sub five hour race and was second team to finish.

Junior Aquathlon 6 August 2011

As part of the 2011 Mourne Triathlon we are organising a junior aquathlon for kids between 14 and 18 years in the stunning surroundings of Castlewellan Forest Park in County Down. The aquathlon consists of a 350 m open water swim (wetsuits compulsory), followed by a one mile run on grass and paths.

The race starts at 11:00. Registration on the day takes place in the courtyard of the park buildings. There is no entry fee, but numbers are capped at 20 competitors.

Mourne Triathlon Entry Now Open!

Hi Folks,

My name is Neville O'Neill, I'm the race director from Olympian Triathlon Club and I’m organising the Mourne Triathlon for 2012.  I wanted to let you know that Mourne is now open for entry, details are below.  I’m contacting everyone from the 2011 entries first to give you the chance of getting in early and having first chance before it really starts to heat up

I was the race organiser for the event in 2011 and I'm taking the task on again with the main goal of putting on a safe, enjoyable and challenging event.  We've done a lessons learnt on the 2011 event and taken all the feedback people gave us as we feel it's important to put on an event everyone can enjoy and feel it's good value for money.

So what will 2012 bring?  Well for starters it's the same cost as last year £45 for single entries and £70 for relay.  We've also moved the race to July 7th this year and we've also been granted National Series status.  We are at present the only Olympic distance event in Northern Ireland with National Series status.  This will give people a chance to score NS points for the 2012 year.  We are in talks with sponsorship companies and we are going to ensure the goodie bags are well supplied this year.

The event was moved from August to July as the original date clashed with the Women's Olympic event in London and we didn't want to risk stealing the spotlight from that event :)

Details so far:

Event Date - July 7th 2012 10am start

Full Olympic Distance (National Series) - Entry https://www.triathlonireland-newserver.com/local-races.html

Closed Roads

One of the most beautiful race locations in Ireland

Both single & Relay entries available

I look forward to seeing you all in July for what I hope to be an enjoyable race for everyone

Until then stay safe and happy training :)
